NTCVFD has a fleet of eight vehicles and a rescue trailer capable of responding to a wide variety of emergencies. Two pickups are owned by the department which have quick-response capabilities with a variety of equipment but are also primarily used as brush-trucks for fighting field and wildlands fires. Two additional pickups are on permanent loan from the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation to augment wildland fire fighting. A big F-800 known as “Flame” can serve as a water source but is also used in off-road firefighting. A 2009 Freightliner is our primary structure truck which includes a full supply of SCBA packs. A 2006 Sterling truck is our primary water tender (tanker) which is used to refill trucks on scene, can draft from a variety of water sources, and also carries a porta-pit which can be used to empty its contents and then go refill. All of our extrication gear is stored on a 1996 F-250 called “Rescue”. On this truck is a wide variety of gear used to extricate a patient or help us gain access to parts of a building. The newest member of the fleet is a rescue trailer (T1) which contains a variety of specialty equipment needed for low angle rescue, extensive extrications, trench rescue, and can also be used as a portable command unit in a complicated scenario. It includes a radio base station, cell phone booster station, and additional generators.
Members of the NTCVFD are covered by workman’s compensation insurance, liability insurance, and are members of the Montana Public Employees Retirement Administration—Volunteer Firefighters Compensation Act which is a statewide retirement and disability plan.
